'It's almost like we brought heaven to them...' Dr Bua Masoma reflects on her experience during the medical mission trip to Timangolo

Dr. Bua Masoma just completed medical school at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Buea in Cameroon. There she was, off to the professional world as a General Practitioner with a passion to provide medical care with the skills she had gained over seven years of intense training.

Dr. Masoma chose to begin this journey by volunteering with Eden Global Missions on a Medical Mission Outreach in the East Region of Cameroon. After spending a long and intense week traveling, consulting and sharing the gospel to hundreds of people in rural communities of the area, Dr Masoma discusses her key moments during the health campaign. One of those exciting moments was working with like-minded Christians to provided care in a compassionate way. Dr. Masoma equally enjoyed the fun and friendly atmosphere during the health campaign as she felt no bounds in approaching other volunteers regardless of their status. However, her encounter with the refugee community of Timangolo was an experience that stood out.

Dr Masoma recounts, 'My main highlight was my trip to Timangolo...The journey was rough but it was exciting'...'We met a group of people going through a very difficult moment as refugees, as individuals who didn't have much.' 'I was really touched, it taught me to be grateful.'

Regarding the impact of her presence and that of the medical team, Dr Masoma further added, 'They were so happy, they came in their numbers... It's almost like we brought heaven to them.' Indeed, some things we might take for granted can make such a difference for others.

What an impactful way to start a medical career! Dr. Bua Masoma chose to volunteer her time, skills, and efforts reaching out to those who need primary healthcare the most in humanitarian medical context through medical missions. Dr. Masoma is an inspiration to many young medical doctors in Buea, Cameroon, and beyond. Our prayer is for her to become a real beacon of hope for several communities in the years to come and to keep bringing 'heaven' and healing to hurting individuals and communities.
