Bringing Hope to Refugees in Timangolo, East Cameroon

Medical Mission Outreaches have historically proven to be efficient in providing the much-needed relief and sometimes in a life saving way in low-resource contexts. Healthcare is not reserved for some, NO – it shouldn’t be! Basic healthcare is fundamental and must be equitable for everyone, regardless. When people begin to scramble for a card of paracetamol to calm a headache or a longstanding back pain, then there is a problem. When moms must stay home and watch their last born burn with a fever of 40 degrees Celsius just in the hope that nothing worse occurs because they don’t have ANYTHING to take them to the nearest health centre, there is a problem.
In some communities, this is a reality. Our visit to the refugee camp of Timangolo, East Region of Cameroon made us see some mind-blowing realities. Many team members could hardly put into words what they saw and experienced. Patients were extremely in need! They felt salvation had come for two-days when our medical team landed at the Timangolo Health Centre. They mostly were unable to speak French nor English but kept saying ‘Ousseko’ meaning ‘Thank you’. They kept blessing and singing songs to praise and encourage our team.
It was evident that the cuts to humanitarian aid globally were not just on the media, people whom it affected were dying. Many had extreme conditions, others had basic health problems, but they were all limited in their capacity to access healthcare. Plenty of malnourished children, untreated wounds, and treatable infections was what we saw.
Of course, we had to step in! Not just because we are health workers… We had to step in not just to make a show… We had to step in out of genuine love and concern for them as taught to us by our Lord. We stepped in to care for ‘These little ones…’ as demonstrated in Matthew 25:40. We did not need the world to react; we could step in and help our neighbours.
We did! Well, they did… Medical doctors, medical students, nurses and other volunteer health workers. They stepped in without a salary. They stepped in in to provide the heavily needing Healing and Relief! Eden Global Missions offered a platform for love to be shared. A platform for smiles to be restored and even more for Hope to come to hundreds. In just two days we offered free primary healthcare to almost 300 refugees from the camp.
We are incredibly grateful to the refugee community of Timangolo for accepting our care and to the health centre of that community for the continuous hard work they do in caring for Cameroonians and Central African Refugees in the area.
The Eden team of volunteers are the real heroes!
Thank you to everyone supporting this wonderful and divine initiative to bring back hope to people who have lost everything.
More needs to be done. We can do more together. Write to us if you want to partner or support more medical missions (info@edenglobalmissions.org)
